Towards a better future
However, the downward spiral of the drought-prone region can still be arrested by devising robust and resilient systems of livelihoods and enterprises and reasonable solutions for regenerating the local environment.
DA has over the years set up three resource centres in Orchha, Datia and Pahuj benefitting approximately a million people in 139 villages. Over almost three decades, DA has inspired the regional population with its innovative solutions, creating a network of support and infrastructure and empowering the local people with knowledge and skills to work towards their better future.
DA has worked in Bundelkhand at various levels. The group initially focused on the regeneration of natural resources through modern scientific practices and local knowledge. The focus was on encouraging natural plant regeneration and moisture retention.
At the second level, DA worked towards developing technologies for mass application, aimed at fulfilling the basic human needs of food, shelter, energy and clothing. Sustainable production-systems were designed, working with local resources, local labour and local materials. Technology-based livelihoods, creating new skills were introduced to ensure the adoption of new technologies. More options for affordable products were integrated with the local market and the supply-chain and delivery-systems strengthened.
