Objective
Introduction to the group
The genesis of this group
lies in the appreciation of the intensifying conflict between
conservation priorities on the one hand and the needs of the human
population on the other, a conflict which militates against the
concept of sustainable development for supporting a growing
population with increasing democratic expectations of a better life.
The bare facts of the conservation problem in India are that she
supports 15% of the world’s population and 14% of its livestock on
2% of its land. India also is host to 45000 plant and 65000 animal
species spread over 25 biogeographic zones. In protecting the
country’s genetic biodiversity in the face of colossal human
pressure, there is a deep conflict of interest, most clearly
illustrated in the protected areas of India. This study is to be
qualitative assessment of the human
Goals
To conserve and manage the
biotic resources, especially in the pristine areas of the country.
Objective
To reconnect people to the natural
world and build public support for protecting biodiversity in our
backyards, neighborhoods, communities, and watersheds.
To support and expand environmental
protection efforts across the entirety of the watersheds, in which
our communities reside, so that environmental protection sustains
ecosystems in support of wildlife and people.
To promote the inclusion of
biological conservation and ecosystem protection considerations in
citizen, land use and government decision making.
