Beneficiary Oriented
Scheme for Tribal Development
This scheme was launched during the year 1989-90. It is 100%
centrally sponsored scheme to be implemented by the State/Union
Territory Govt.
The objectives of the scheme are the re-habilitation of the tribal
and other families under relocation plan, and to shift the families
from inside the protected areas to outside it.
The main components of the scheme are :
- Identification of the villages to be relocated.
- Identification of sites for relocation.
- Preparation of re-habilitation projects.
The management of protected areas especially the National Parks
and Sanctuaries demand keeping such areas as little disturbed as
possible. Enclave tribal villages with growing human population
definitely put additional pressures to precious biodiversity of the
protected areas. While the Protected Areas are required to be kept
as inviolate as possible for growth of ecosystem the aspiration of
development of these pocketed tribal population can not also be
ignored. The scheme proposes to relocate the pocketed tribal
population in areas out side the protected area network with their
consent so that in the rehabilitated area they can be provided with
better amenities of life.
