Environmental Priorities Study (Canadian International Development Agency)	Identifies environmental priorities in India, constraints encountered by various attempts to address these and also the scope for a donor agency in contributing to the efforts.
Technology and Development Strategy for Rural Labour (National Commission on Rural Labour)	Suggests possibilities of improving the income generating capacity and living conditions of rural labour through environmentally sound and appropriate technological interventions.
Community Based Management of Natural Resource (USAID)	Examines the concept of participatory community action in historical perspective; judges ongoing community management efforts at natural resource management and provides a set of guidelines for effective implementation for combined experiences in failure and success. Rapid Rural Appraisal is used to study community based natural resource management system from 17 random locations to represent diverse Indian conditions.
Environmental and Social Report (Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services)	Outlines the institution’s Environmental and Social Policy and details operational procedures whereby the policy can be practised. The document refers to the relevant regulatory framework and key Environmental and Social issues in infrastructure sector. Environmental and Social procedure are dovetailed in to a typical project cycle of infrastructure projects.
Environmental and Social Policy and Procedures (POWERGRID)	Outlines POWERGRID’s Environmental and Social Policy. The document states operational and management procedures to put the policy in to practice. Details of legal and regulatory framework for power transmission projects are described. Environmental and Social issues in the power transmission sector are analysed and requisite management procedures are dovetailed into a typical power transmission project cycle within POWERGRID

State of Environment – Bihar (Government of Bihar)	Analyses natural resource endowments in the State, the implications of human interventions and provides a conceptual basis for formulating a Conservation Strategy.
Technology Innovations and Tribal Development – A Need Specification Study on Plains tribes of Assam (Government of Assam)	Highlights the current status of the major tribal groups of Assam in term of social, economic, technological and other development needs.
Common Property Resource Management Studies (World Bank)	Attempts to develop institutional system and mechanisms for management of Common Property Resources in government initiated Integrated Watershed Development and Social Forestry Programmes through case studies spread over 8 micro-watersheds in Jammu and Kashmir Himachal Pradesh – the hills and Rajasthan and Orissa the plains. Rapid Rural Appraisal technique used extensively to complete the study within a stipulated time frame.
Employment Generation Through Forestry Activities in Rajasthan (World Food Programme)	Evaluates WFP forestry projects in Rajasthan and suggests a framework for use of generated funds in the projects.
Livestock and fodder Management Issues in Madhya Pradesh (World Food Programme)	Reflects and analyses people’s perception of livestock management in Madhya Pradesh. The report identifies specific interventions necessary and enunciates guidelines for implementation of WFP generated funds activities.
Assessment of NGOs for Participatory Forest Management in the Uttaranchal (ODA)	Documents and evaluates experiences of NGOs in forest management in the hills of Uttar Pradesh. The study is a forerunner to a large scale programme on participatory forest management involving local people, Forest Department and local NGOs. It also evaluates the capacity of some national NGOs offering training in participatory forest management to Forest Department staff.

Conservation and Sustainable Development Strategies for the Khajuraho Heritage Region
Rehabilitation of Bonded Labour: Deogarh and Dumka Districts, Bihar (Government of Bihar)	Details a programme of primary and secondary activities of rehabilitation of approximately 2600 bonded labourers and also outline necessary support mechanism besides the strategic options. RRA methods used to understand the magnitude of the issues over a wide area.
Integrated Rural Energy Planning, West District, Sikkim (Government of Sikkim)	Suggests a mix of conventional and non-conventional energy options to meet the diverse needs based on household and village level consumption patterns in the region.
Micro-level Energy Planning – A case Study of Orissa (Government of Orissa)	Analyses the demand-supply relationship for energy in Jatni block of Puri district with suggestion for possible interventions.
Environmental Impact Assessment for TISCO Mines, Noamundi, Bihar (TISCO)	Identifies the impact of mining activity on the surrounding region and suggests ameliorative measures in an environmental management plan.
An Adaptive Approach to District Planning – Bahraich Dist., U.P (District Collector, Bahraich)	Emphasis on evolving techniques for participatory planning and local institutional systems. RRA methodology used in the field.
District Resource Information Systems (Ford Foundation)	Elucidates the uses of remote sensing techniques for developing a district level Geographic Information System (GIS).
District Development Strategy, Datis, M.P. (Ford foundation)	Presents a resource inventory for Datia district based on a detailed survey and satellite data. The project also involved preparation of Sectoral development Plan for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.
Sustainable Development Programme : Palni Hills, Tamil Nadu (Swedish Nature Foundation)	Elaborates comprehensive research cum action programme which seeks to systematically understand this ecologically fragile region, plan and execute experimentation/demonstration with local groups.
Social Impact Assessment of Mining Projects Rehabilitation (MetChem, Canada)	Examines the Resettlement and Rehabilitation packages offered to villages displaced by mining in Godda District of Bihar and Wardha Valley of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. Appart from making am objective assessment of the situation, the studies also recommend innovative compensation packages for the people.
Integrated Mission for Sustainable Development, Tumkur (Department of Space)	Encapsulates the aspirations of the people of Chiknayakanhalli for a sustainable feature within an Action Plan. The strategy is a mulitpronged Approach of triggering rapid growth and developing the resource base. Sophisticaticated planning tools of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System and the strengths of commonly participatory techniques used to formulate the Action Plan.
Planning Atlas, Tumkur (IDRC)	An innovative effort to use spatial information to aid decision-making at district level through an Atlas. The atlas is devided in to different parts of basic thematic and derived maps which are validated through interactions with district officials.

Village / Clusters

Field Experimentation Programme; Datia District, Madhya Pradesh (Various Government Agencies)	A series of field experimentation cum demonstration projects currently limited to 26 villages with plans to extend activities that encompass the whole district. Includes regeneration of highly degraded lands through soil and moisture conservation, silivi-pasture and agro-forestry, and income generation programmes utilising biomass and other local resources.
Socio-Economic Environment Study; Tata Fertilizers, Babrala, U.P. (Tata Chemicals Ltd.)	Examines each household effected by the establishment of the plant in the area and outlines possibilities of rehabilitation and neighbourhood development.
Feasibility Study for Sustainable Community Development, Gajraula, U.P. (VAM Organic Chemicals Ltd.)	Examines the feasibility of an industrial enterprise joining hands with an NGO to take-up sustainable community development activities. Prolonged interaction with villagers around Gajraula bring forth the problems and possible solution to industrilasation.
