Involvement in GEP-CCS
The Climate Change Centre,
Development Alternatives is a major partner of this project. The project
aims at developing the capacity of the Climate Change Centre,
Development Alternatives to contribute significantly in addressing to
the climate change related issues in India and in the South Asia region
and to facilitate and promote Climate Change Mitigation Projects
particularly in the renewable energy sector.
Climate Change Centre, Development Alternatives, involvement in this
project is in the following specific areas :
Research
- Bring out research papers on climate
change related issue to focus on the strategies and methodologies
for mitigating the harmful effects of global climate change

Decentralised Energy Projects
- Designing and developing toolkits to
strengthen the technological capacity of the Climate Change Centre so
that they could easily handle the climate change mitigation projects
- Designing, developing and providing
technical assistance for one pilot GHG emission reduction project in
one state in India, to serve as a model for future project development
- Identifying a protfolio of GHG
mitigation projects and work closely with project developers to
prepare for funding support
- Developing and standardising project
tracking mechanism in order to appropriately track the progress of the
projects from identification to funding levels
Municipal Solid Waste and Methane Emissions Projects
Identifying the training needs of Indian
municipalities on solid waste management and reducing methane
emissions from municipal solid wastes and selecting the municipalities
for training - conducting training of 5 municipailties to begin with
Identifying a demonstration project
aimed at reduction of methane emission from municipal solid waste
