Facilitating State of
Environment Reporting in India for the Ministry of Environment and Forests
-
The primary goal of this project is to design and operationalise a
participatory and scientifically rigorous system in India (at the state
and district level) that enables informed policy formulation,
decision-making and follow - up action. Development Alternatives as one of
the NHI (National Host Institution) is building the capacity of the State
Govts. to establish a firm reporting system in the States. The SoE reports
of 8 states of India have been prepared.
Preparation of DPRs
(Detailed Project Reports) for distributed power generation for 4 villages
in UP, NTPC
In order to demonstrate
sustainable models of decentralized rural electrification, DA conducted
feasibility studies and prepared DPRs for renewable energy based
electrification of 4 villages in Rihand region, Uttar Pradesh. The DA team
conducted extensive household surveys, group meetings and Gram Sabhas to
assess the demand for electricity, the willingness to pay for the
electricity and the resources available in the villages to generate
electricity locally.
Completed Projects
Process Monitoring Study for United Nation World Food
Programme (WFP)
The team proposes to assist WFP to
evolve a more efficient and practical system of monitoring commodity
storage, handling and distribution, measuring improved food security of
WFP beneficiaries and monitoring the use of generated funds with
specific focus on community participation, asset creation for women and
implementation through NGOs.
The method team adopted was that the
staff involved in the project (Forest department and WFP Delhi) should
extract problems from the situations in which they find themselves. The
problems as well as the best established practices in and around the system were understood and
analysed in the broader framework of the project.
