Sustainable Development Strategies programme
The programme aims to develop and promote sustainable development strategies at village, district, state and national levels. The focus is on empowering communities and strengthening local institutions to plan and execute strategies with local government and institutions for their upliftment.
The group has pioneered the integration of village level participatory planning systems with the use of sophisticated tools, like remote sensing and geographic information systems.
The group undertakes projects / programmes on wasteland regeneration, water system management, sustainable agriculture practices, community forestry and rural enterprise.
Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) Programme
Displacement of native people is an inevitable consequence of most development projects. Ensuring adequate compensation for land and property acquired, restoring livelihoods and rehabilitating communities in their new environs are essential objectives of the R & R programme.
The group undertakes feasibility studies for R & R, evaluates R & R programme design strategies and alternate income generation livelihood.
Community Natural Resource Management Programme
Resource management in rural environment is governed by village level institutions such as traditional community organisations, Panchayats, Joint Forest Management Committees or Self Help Groups. The success of the programme depends on the initiatives and responsibilities of these institutions and its acceptance by the members of the community.
Area of operation : Issues undertaken by the Group include designing appropriate institutions for resource management, strengthening existing institutions for additional roles, enhancing community participation components and empowering women.
