Power
generation from Producer Gas
Environmentally
friendly low cost power generation for
captive use or for village electrification
Objectives
DESI Power Orchha was formed with
the
objective of supplying environment friendly power
at a low cost to TARAgram, which is engaged in
promoting rural sustainable development. The first
plant was commissioned in April 1996. This
gasifier functioned till January 1999, when it was

Methodology
Power is generated by substituting gas,
produced by a series of processes on wood, in
place of diesel in a diesel engine. Upto 85%
replacement of diesel can be obtained by
controlling the load and other factors. The
final composition of producer gas is CH4
3 to 4%, CO - 20%, H2 - 18 to 20%,
CO2 - 12% and the rest being N2.

Future Plan
For the first two weeks of August 2001,
the plant will have to be run on a test basis,
to check for any persisting problems. After
that it can be run continuously without
calling for any major maintenance in the near
future. It should also be looked into, whether
the existing diesel engines can be upgraded to
run on pure gas.
