A case of Eco - Development in the Orchha wild Life Sanctuary in the Tikamgarh District


OBJECTIVES
Technology and community based initiatives for conservation and re-generation of natural resources leading to sustainable livelihoods.
To create employment opportunities.
To reduce dependence on forest.
To improve productivity of agriculture and other lands by legumes.
To evolve conservation strategy through peoples participation and capacity building.

OUTPUTS - that have made a difference to people's lives
Development of infrastructure (Community hall at Lotna village completed, 14 soakpits and 5 improved cook stoves constructed, 1 hand pump installed)
Formation of the Forest Protection Committee (FPC) and 4 women savings groups
Non-formal education classes initiated in Singhpura village.
Training on Charring and Briquetting technology provided to FPC
Training of candle making completed with stress on its marketing
Monthly health camp organised in the two villages.
Community based action programmes :
Agriculture : Introduced Dhaincha to improve productivity of land
Fodder cultivation
Horticulture / Plantation : Various types of 510 seedlings of Mango, Guava, Lemon, Papaya, Amla, Bamboo distributed.
