THE GREEN SHOW SERIES

   32 episodes of a weekly environment and business
 magazine called "The Green Show" were produced by
 Development Alternatives for three satellite channels. A
 similar series of 30 minutes duration was then
 commissioned and telecast on Doordarshan III, India’s
 national broadcaster. The following pages are an
 episode wise listing of the Green Show stories

EPISODE 1
  Phosphogypsum as Wood Substitute
 The destruction of our forests to answer the need for
 wood is responsible for the vast tracts of degraded land.
 Phosphogypsum can be an eco-friendly substitute for
 the wood used in the interiors of buildings.

 Chemicals in Cosmetics
 
Cosmetic industry today is a multi-billion dollar industry,
 which survives by selling dreams in tubes and bottles.
 This story exposes the use of chemicals in cosmetics,
 which can be extremely harmful to the users.

 Nirulas and Recycling
 Nirulas, the fast food chain, is trying to do its bit in
 promoting environment-friendly measures like using
 recycled bags, composting etc. in their day-to-day work.

 Delhi Ridge
 The Delhi Ridge is the only lung Delhi has. But, can the
 ridge survive the onslaught of encroachers? This video
 capsule is an eye-opener on the subject.

 Sewage Recycling in Karnal
 In Karnal, the experiment of recycling sewage water
 and using it for plantations has been a success. This
 success story can be replicated in other Indian towns
 and cities.

 Recycled Paper : The TARA Initiative
 
The initiative of Development Alternatives in setting up
 hand made paper units is a great success. It not only
 produces paper from rags

 

 and used paper, but also offers employment
 opportunities to unskilled women and provides them a
 sense of dignity and pride.

 the daily affairs of the hotel which helps in conserving
 water, and prevent land degradation and other
 environment conservation measures.

  Fluorescent Lamps as Energy Conservers
 
Conventional bulbs require more electricity to produce
 the amount of light required. Replacing these bulbs with
 fluorescent lamps can save a lot in terms of electricity

This story traces the growth of environment concerns in

 adopted to conserve resources and treat effluents are in
 place today, which also help in conserving money.
