ommunication, in true sense of the term, is about building bridges and reaching out to the target group and spreading the right messages. The message forms the core and the means of reaching out to people, the periphery. This is the raison de etre of the Communication Unit.

The present is a time of deep pervasive social transformation. The means of communication have increased by leaps and bounds and the information explosion has overtaken us. Today, we have to take a conscious decision whether we want to remain passive consumers or become active users and participants in this new communication revolution.

Development Alternatives (DA) is an organization which is trying to create livelihoods for millions by empowering them with technologies which could be translated into employment-generating trades of sustainable nature. In a way, DA is trying to help all those below the poverty line, who are keen to help themselves, utilising S&T as the tool for empowerment.

We, at DA, are trying to do our little bit through our field units, franchises and the wide network of grassroots NGOs. We are sure that all such micro ventures of different development agencies would make a positive difference in the macro development scenario.

In order to take the scientific innovations from our national S&T institutions to the portals of a rural mud hut, we have to reach out through a medium which may serve as a communication bridge between the two .

The core function of the Communication Unit is to increase and enhance the outreach of the organisation. This is done by sharing experiences with others and dissemination of information on sustainable development. On the other hand, the unit also brings to the organisation the success stories happening elsewhere in the world.
