The International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada is one of the oldest strategic partners of Development Alternatives.  Starting in 1986, IDRC has funded four large projects with DA and several smaller ones.  The large projects were to:
  ● Develop a marketable roofing material based on biomass
  ● Develop Dainet, a nationwide information system on sustainable development issues
  ● Develop a commercially viable production unit for handmade, recycled paper
  ● Investigate the health aspects of small industries

The association with IDRC was of critical value in helping DA to build up a rigorous research culture and in putting place the infrastructure needed to carry out applied research applicable to the ground realities of a low income economy such as that of rural India
