A Premiere of
“Trade Talking”
Development
Alternatives organised a special premiere of Trade Talking on
July 26,
at India habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Oxfam International, Television Trust for the Environment (TVE) and
Development Alternatives have jointly produced “Trade Talking”, a series
of six short films focusing on significant trade barriers experienced by
India, Zambia, Philippines, Brazil, Kenya and Indonesia.
The 30 minute film focuses on significant trade issues
affecting developing countries in the context of the WTO negotiations
taking place in Geneva. It aims to encourage audiences to understand how
their countries need to secure a fair deal at the WTO negotiations held
in Geneva.
The film
was highly appreciated by the audience who were from all segments -
media, diplomats, government officials, civil society organisations,
industry and trade organisations. It was a full house with a good
interactive discussion after the screening.
Two Day
Workshop on Recycled Paper Products
Did you know that one ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees?
Development Alternatives in association with the
Department of Environment and Forests, Govt. of NCT Delhi,
organized a two day workshop for teachers and students from 17 schools
of Delhi on designing and converting recycled paper into products on
July 18-19.
This was a follow up to the setting up of mini paper
recycling units (MPRU), by TARA in Schools under the Eco club scheme of
the Delhi Government and also in the Delhi Secretariat, where large
amounts of paper are used everyday.
Student designers from NIFT interacted with the
participants on creative designing with paper. Experts from TARAgram,
Jhansi, of Development Alternatives demonstrated how to convert waste
paper into items like files, folders, pen stands, lampshades, carry bags
and stationery.
The two
day event, coordinated by CLEAN-India and TARA was marked by the
presence of Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dixit and the
participants displayed their products made out of the recycled paper
during the workshop in an exhibition titled, “Recycling
paper - Saving trees”.
