l DA conducted carbon footprint and environment assessment exercises in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, making it ninth out of the 12 districts of Himachal to be covered by the exercise. The activity was carried out by the Community Led Assessment, Awareness, Advocacy and Action Programme (CLAP) for Environment Protection and Carbon Neutrality.
 
 

 

TARA Livelihood Academy (TLA)

 
 


l DA in collaboration with Bajaj Hindustan Limited, organised an Employability Training of Private Security Guards at Lalitpur from May 19 to 24. The workshop was attended by 36 participants.

l A Graduate Entrepreneurship Training, using Information Technology (GET-IT) was organised by DA at TARAgram, Pahuj from 16-18 May 2011. More than 10 participants took part in the training.

l DA’s proposal on Public Private Partnership (PPP) has been shortlisted by the Panchayati Raj Department for Capacity Building and Training of Elected Representatives and Functionaries of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

l Around 40 participants were taught water testing, using JAL TARA kits, during a workshop on advocacy and promotion of SODIS, a Solar Disinfection (SODIS) point-of use (p-o-u) water treatment method, organised at Gittorni, New Delhi, on May 11 2011 . Jal TARA kits were distributed to the NGO partners.

l DA made a presentation on the field experiences of methodological issues of sustainable development during a workshop on "Integrating Business Responsibilities in MSME (Micro Small Medium Enterprise) Cluster" on May 19, 2011.

l DA received the Climate Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) contract for capacity building for eco-construction. It is now being verified.

l DA attended a workshop on "Financial Instruments for Climate Change Adaptation" organised by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ ) to understand how existing financial products help rural communities to deal with the impact of climate change and to identify and address the barriers they face.

TARA Akshar+ is one of the four finalists from 35 countries in the Buckminster Fuller Challenge for the prestigious annual design science competition - "Socially-Responsible Design’s Highest Award", organised by Japan’s leading magazine, Metropolis. The Challenge awards $100,000 to support the development and implementation of a systems-based solution to the pressing problems of our times.

l TARA Akshar, in collaboration with Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes Welfare Department of Government of Madhya Pradesh aims at making 500 women of the Sahariya tribe in Sheopur district literate in four months. A total of eight centres will be functional under the programme.

Development Alternatives participated in an exhibition on ‘Sustainable Urban Habitats’ organised by Rashtrapati Bhavan at the President’s Estate on May 19. The exhibition was attended by Her Excellence Smt Pratibha Patil, President of India, Smt Shiela Dikshit, Chief Minister Delhi, among other bureaucrats and media professionals.

l A base line study was conducted under the World Bank - Rural Realty show for catalysing large scale climate change project. The study covers 100 villages of two districts of Bundelkhand region of Jhansi and Tikamgarh.

l An advisory meeting was conducted under the World Bank - Rural Realty show for catalysing large scale climate change project on 6 May. Experts from various fields came together to share their experiences. The meeting was chaired by Dr Ashok Khosla, Chairman Development Alternatives and Ms Jyoti Parkh, Executive Director, Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe). An advisory committee was formed during the meeting.
