workshop on ‘Capacity Building Programme for Trade Union Leaders in the
Construction Industry’ was conducted by the V.V. Giri National Labour
Institute in Noida, from February 8 to 12, 2010. From the Development
Alternatives Group, Vrinda Chopra and Taheer Syed attended the workshop
which has brought together various trade union leaders from different parts
of the country to build capacities in order to better support the
construction workers. There were discussion on welfare schemes, current
problems of the construction workers and how to alleviate them, and
leadership skills |

l The forthcoming Lok Awaas Yatra will be held from March 26 to 30, 2010 in the eastern regions of India covering Bihar and Orissa. This Yatra will conclude in a regional seminar at Patna on March 30, 2010 that will identify the key enablers for enhancing the quality of rural habitat in the region l Practical Action – Nepal and Practical Action – Bangladesh, working with the underprivileged communities to develop appropriate technologies in food production, energy, transport, shelter and disaster mitigation are the latest members of the basin-South Asia Regional Platform. At present, the platform has 16 members from different parts of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka |
