A workshop was organised in Jhansi on October 13, 2009, on Inter Sectoral Convergence with NREGS for Enhancing Productivity in the 13 districts of Bundelkhand as also in selected pilot districts. Development Alternatives (DA) was invited from the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India to offer details on the NREGS

l HP- CLEAN programme was launched in Himachal Pradesh on October 25, 2009. The inauguration by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh was followed by a Welcome Address by Director, Environment, Science & Technology, Government of Himachal Pradesh

TARA Livelihood Academy (TLA)
l A three-day training programme on Organic Composting was conducted at Jabalpur for the stakeholders of the Dairy Cluster in Jabalpur in the Green Jobs project initiated by the International Labour Organisation, South Asia. Also, a field visit by a Sri Lankan team assisted by TLA was conducted successfully for Value Chain Development (VCD) for the Dairy Cluster in Jabalpur in October 2009

l A three-day executive training programme on Community Radio was conducted in TARAgram, Orchha from November 5-7, 2009. Also, a one-day training programme for Village Energy Committee for Radhapur village was conducted on October 30, 2009, along with a one-day training programme for the women stakeholders of the Gaushala programme of Bundelkhand

l An exposure visit was organised to a model village Hivre Bazar (Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra) for integrated rural development for the members of local governing bodies (Orchha town and six Gram Panchayats) from October 6-9, 2009, under the project titled ‘Strengthening District Planning in India’ and supported by The Asia Foundation

l South Asia Environment Outlook (SAEO) 2009 was launched on October 20, 2009 in the SAARC Environment Ministers Conference held in New Delhi

l Under the new implementation phase TARA Akshar programme was rolled out with the Sehgal Foundation in Mewat to help 144 women become literate in two months’s time

l The Lifeline India project has been extended till December 2009 in the same implementing area with a query generation target of 15,000

Radio Bundelkhand has completed its first year successfully. This participatory rural communication medium has managed to give voice to the voiceless, thus living up to its promise

l This year, the ENVIS centre of Development Alternatives completed its 25 years of existence along with six other centres. A one-day seminar organised by the World Wide Fund India and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India was held at World Wide Fund India, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, on October 27, 2009. The keynote address was made by the Dr Nilkanth Ghosh, Statistical Advisor, MoEF and souvenirs were presented to all the seven centres
