Radio Bundelkhand:
Education, Enterprise and Employment

Sunil of Baruasagar learned to plan his coaching classes in a better way after listening to Coaching Ki Planning under the radio programme Hum Honge Kamyab. He changed his method of studying and passed with very good numbers in his next class.

Hum Honge Kamyab is a show that imparts information on various aspects of education. This programme provides information on the medium and processes of teaching and studying, the variety of courses being conducted in the local schools, colleges and institutions, the process of admission in these courses, the types of coaching centres and experts’ opinions. Radio Bundelkhand is fast becoming a source of guidance for the youth of Bundelkhand through its educational information, inspirational talks and songs.

Another radio programme, Khula Asman speaks on employment and provides information on regional, state and national level employment opportunities. The content for the show is taken from employment newspapers and Madhya Pradesh’s Rozgaar Nirman, as the contents are authentic and useful for the local unemployed youth. A regular listener of Khula Asman, Daalchandra Ahirwar of Kunwarpura village requested Radio Bundelkhand on the phone to give information on recruitment in the Indian Army as he was preparing for the same. In this area, Radio Bundelkhand is the only medium that provides employment information right at the doorstep of local youth.

Besides broadcasting programmes on employment opportunities, Radio Bundelkhand also has programmes giving information on self-employment.

In the programme Chhota Kaam Bada Munafa, the anchor talks to a person who has set up his or her own small-scale enterprise. This programme also brings on its panel experts of small-scale enterprises, promotes self employment by giving important tips and provides information on the process of self employment, budgets, bank loans, market prospects, etc. The programme also provides information on how to make candles, chalks and various types of handicrafts. During such conversations small entrepreneurs discuss topics like income, expenditure, challenges and processes of setting up small-scale enterprises and offer advice to people who wish to set up similar enterprises.

Safalta Ki Kahani Meri Zubani provides information on economic security and self employment through micro credit and small-scale enterprises. This programme also highlights the success stories of Self Help Groups (SHGs) of women and men who set up enterprises with the money collected by their SHG. Through these stories, people are encouraged to and informed about setting up enterprises on their own. This programme received overwhelming response right from the start and the listeners who were not a part of any SHG requested for a SHG training programme on the radio.

This is how Radio Bundelkhand runs three employment-based programmes in a week in which all kinds of information from rural small-scale enterprises to employment opportunities and other vocational and technical courses are provided so that the youth can take the right step towards their desired career.

The Radio Bundelkhand team also creates and produces shows on local festivals, fairs and the weather. The radio team provides information on local fairs and their main attractions and encourages people to make, sell and promote handicraft items. Also, during festivals like Holi, Deepawali, Eid, Basant Panchami, etc., these shows provide prior information on how to make envelopes, laddoos, candles and decorative items. Regional events in Jhansi, Orchha, Nivadi, Baruasagar, Tikamgarh, etc., also get coverage through the radio. q
