Virtual Tour
In this section, we document the success of three very
different checkdams in the Bundelkhand region at improving the
lives of the rural communities in the area. From the longest to
the tallest and all the sizes in between, these checkdams have
been instrumental in providing water to those who need it the
most.
The majority of our checkdams are located in three districts:
Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh), Tikamgarh (Madhya Pradesh) and Datia
(Madhya Pradesh) and are usually located near small villages or
towns. Most of these areas are remote and accessible only during
the winter season, as the monsoon rains frequently make the dirt
tracks impassible for almost three months out of the year.
Lidhora
The Lidhora checkdam serves as a lifeline to the residents of
seven villages in the district. Learn how this structure has
changed their lives for the better.
Ghurari
Our most scenic and photographed checkdam is also one of the
largest ones in our group.
Chirula
The reputation of our checkdams is well known among the villagers
of Chirula. Learn how one local farmer’s gamble paid off.
