    Project Description:

    The Work 4 Progress project of Development Alternatives and ‘la Caixa’ Foundation has evolved out of a social innovation methodology to enable micro-entrepreneurship led job creation in the poverty-stricken, underserved regions of Bundelkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh in Central India characterized by limited access to opportunities and low levels of resilience to the dynamic nature of markets. While there are multiple agencies, both government and private, who engage in delivering a range of services to micro enterprises, these often remain difficult to comprehend and access. In a series of dialogue sessions, the need for developing a convergent platform to enable various stakeholders to work collaboratively was voiced.

    This gave birth to the Work 4 Progress Coalition which is a learning and action platform to build a strong ecosystem for micro enterprise development in the target geographies and enable co-creation of solutions to service a network of 5000 entrepreneurs. The coalition in essence will be a joint action task force to enable micro enterprise development among women and youth. The members of the coalition consist of representatives from government bodies like District Industries Commission, Rural Self Employment Training Institute, NABARD, Financial Institutions, Academia and Civil Society Organizations.

    Under this project, over 1000 jobs have been created in past two years.

    Your Internship Deliverables will involve:

    1. To assist in the program efficiency and result tracking on dashboard created for         the project. 

    2. Ensure data entry & validation in the dashboard. 

    3. Conduct quality checks with supervision of a field location.

    4. Draft stories of change (optional) 5. Assist in drafting analytical reports on the          program.

    The recruit will be a senior member of the Sustainable Enterprise Domain (SED) of Development Alternatives Group. The work done by Development Alternatives is divided under 5 functional domains (departments), basis the kind of projects/ programmes undertaken by the particular domain. The Sustainable Enterprise Domain, works in area of building socially relevant enterprise solutions for local economic development and job creation. Over the last two decades due to focused work on this particular area, the DA group has been able to facilitate the development of 8,500 micro enterprises with youth, women and farmers creating over 50,000 jobs. The SED domain caters to sectors that create livelihood opportunities in agriculture and rural services, enhance the quality of like (water and energy based) and promote environmental sustainability (green building materials and waste utilization). The Sustainable Enterprise Domain is also currently incubating IMEDF (Indian Micro Enterprises Development Foundation), the Special Purpose Vehicle of the DA group. Set up with an aim to boost an ecosystem for green and inclusive entrepreneurship, IMEDF promotes and support enterprise models through transfer and adaptation of innovative technology based business models, provision of credit and finance linkages for entrepreneurs, capacity building for business management through technical skill building for business planning and operations, integration and mainstreaming of product and services into the local and extended market channels and collaborate with institutions to create an ecosystem promoting cluster development across India. Given the background the incumbent will be responsible for the following work areas who will be reporting to the domain lead -

    • Business Strategy and Communication of Sustainable Enterprise Vertical and IMEDF (Indian Micro Enterprise Development Foundation).
    • Responsible for building strategic partnerships to develop programmatic approach for the existing initiatives of the domain.
    • Ensuring high quality of the proposals for the cluster development initiative of IMEDF.
    • Managing relationship with external stakeholders involved in value chain development of the clusters (Central and state governments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), technology providers, procurers, sellers, exporters etc.).
    • Setting up of internal processes and systems, for financial management of the clusters, and other large projects under the purview of the domain.
    • Leading development of digital platform for micro entrepreneurs and ensuring its long term sustainability.
    • Roll out of pilot for retail services of IMEDF in the selected geographies, and scale it up for providing services to the micro entrepreneurs.
    • Supporting the implementation team, with development of enterprise packages.
    • Working collaboratively with the team and other domains for business development for Development Alternatives.
    • Administrative responsibilities for management of domain, supporting the domain lead.
