PERSPECTIVES

Preparing Rural Communities for Climate Smart Farming

Around 80% of the population in Bundelkhand region in Central India is dependent on agriculture and allied activities for their livelihood. Looking at the impact of climate change, an increase in the occurrence of droughts and failure of crops, Bundelkhand requires a long term, well-planned investment with a focus on human resource development and natural resource conservation. This article gives a glimpse into the various tools, techniques and practices being adopted to encourage climate resilient farming in this region.

MOMENT OF PRIDE

NABARD's Gramin Samriddhi Award for Chopan-1 Tribal Development Project

Proud to share that our Project - Chopan-1 has been awarded as the "Best Tribal Development Project" by NABARD. This recognises the hard work of those working tirelessly on the ground, for the past many years, to turn around the situation. The Chopan block of Sonebhadra district in Uttar Pradesh majorly comprises Scheduled Tribe Population, who are small farmers with limited resources and highly vulnerable to climate risks. To improve the livelihood of these farmers, the Tribal Development Project was initiated to enhance incomes while preserving the ecological and social integrity of the region. This enabled economic empowerment through the integrated approach of a agri-horti based livelihood, that makes farming even profitable on small plots.
