Bihar Government Award
for adopting Cleaner Brick Production Technologies

Infrastructure development has emerged as one of the priorities of the Bihar government. In recent times burnt clay brick prices have spiralled upwards due to the rising cost of coal, rendering them out of reach for the common man. The Development Alternatives Group has initiated a programme to promote cleaner brick production technologies in some selected districts of the state. This initiative resulted in the growing number of entrepreneurs who have adopted these successful technologies. The Government of Bihar has recently recognised two pioneers in this field: M/s Juli Fly Ash Bricks Industries and M/s Soni Enterprises.

M/s Juli Fly Ash Bricks Industries is located in the village of Mathurapur, Khagaria district. The owner Satish Kumar started fly ash bricks production in January 2013. His is the first ever fly ash bricks unit which has received ISO 9001 and 14001 certification. The technology provider is TARA Machines (www.taramachines.com). In fact fly ash bricks are a new product in the state of Bihar but the satisfied clients as well as the concerned government agencies are gradually mobilising a good market response for the products. Several real estate developers and builders started using fly ash bricks in their construction works.

M/s Soni Enterprises is located in the village of Gayanpur, Bhojapur district. The client adopted TARA Eco Kiln Technology, which is 30-50 % more energy efficient than other technologies and also ensures a consistently high product quality. The client is using industrial boiler waste ash, sponge iron factory waste and coal dust to partially substitute coal as fuel. The proprietor Jitendra Kumar has been successfully operating the kiln achieving significant savings of fuel.

A designated Task Force along with Bihar State Pollution Control Board selected these two young energetic entrepreneurs and on the occasion of World Environment Day 5th of June ,2013, they received awards from the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Mr. Sushil Modi.

Having received strong support from the Bihar government, TARA Machines will be working towards attaining a larger number of enterprises adopt the Clean Brick Production Technology in the state. q
