CLAP
• The CLAP programme has been initiated in Bilaspur District of Himachal Pradesh

• An information kiosk was set up for awareness generation during the Children Science Congress from November 23 – 27, 2009

Bundelkhand
A first of its kind exposure visit of the Women Energy Cluster was organised under the SDC-SCSI project. About 34 women and 7 professionals visited Self Employed Womens Associatiob (SEWA), Ahmedabad on a 4-day tour, learning about the various initiatives taken by the organisation for women empowerment and livelihood security

Under the UNDP-NREGS Convergence project, capacity building need assessment was completed and FGDs with PRI members and CIGs were conducted to assess the gaps in systemic processes, especially the supply side of NREGS

TARA Livelihood Academy (TLA)
Value Chain Development
A steering group consisting of different stakeholders has been formed in the dairy sector. A preparatory meeting and a formal steering group meeting have been organised. A bunch of proposals have been undertaken by different stakeholders to be implemented on an individual basis

TLA has been formally registered as a Vocational Training Provider with the Government of Uttar Pradesh

A three-day training programme on ‘Systems Thinking and System Dynamics Modelling’ was held from November 26 – 28, 2009 in New Delhi

Registration for the TARA Community College for the January 2010 session has begun and Courses on Accounting, Travel & Tourism (Heritage Management) and Basic IT have been finalised for the same

A workshop was organised in Orchha on October 29, 2009 to formulate a Joint Action Plan for Orchha town and 6 other villages on Drinking Water Quality Management, Solid Waste Management as also to initiate a dialogue on Rural-Urban Integration under the project ‘Strengthening District Planning in India’ supported by The Asia Foundation

Development Alternatives facilitated (as a knowledge partner) a two-day workshop on ‘Implementing Indira Awaas Yojna - Seeking Mechanisms for Efficient Delivery of Safe and Sustainable Rural Housing in Bihar’ organised by the Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar, on November 4-5, 2009 in Patna. The main purpose of the workshop was to understand different models of housing delivery that have been effective in other parts of the country and adapt them to the needs and conditions in Bihar. A consensus was built among the participated stakeholders that housing delivery under the Indira Awaas Yojna (IAY) must be seen as a part of a larger systemic process of facilitating access to housing by the people

• A Paper Recycling Unit was installed at Central Command – ARMY, Lucknow

• Two Micro Concrete Roofing Units have been installed at Sagar, Madhya Pradesh

Eco Kiln
Eco Kiln successfully started functioning in Agartala, northeast India for the first time

Eco Kiln construction (Two Shafts) have been completed in Ludhiana, Punjab

• Development Alternatives (DA) received the prestigious Development Marketplace 2009 award for its innovation on communicating climate change risks to rural communities in Bundelkhand in November 2009. The award is for DA’s innovation on creating a reality show for rural women and youth to undertake adaptation measures. Development Marketplace is an annual World Bank competition held in Washington, USA

• A two-day workshop on ‘Community Radio – Tuning into Diversity’ was organised on November 26-28, 2009, at the Kamla Raheja Institute of Architecture & Environment in Mumbai, Participants from Radio Bundelkhand had the opportunity to hear the first-hand experiences of the speakers, including practitioners running Community Radio stations as well as experts on the regulatory, technical and other aspects of running a station. Radio Bundelkhand gave a presentation on the programmes and success stories on the joint management of the station with the communities, which was appreciated by the participants as also other speakers.
