Development Alternatives participated in the orientation workshop organised by DFID under the Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA) programme

l A study on NREGA – ‘Shades of Green and Linkage with the Decent Work’ was undertaken in Kaimur district of Bihar by Development Alternatives, with support from the International Labour Organisation. The report is now ready and available with DA and ILO for sharing on request basis.

l The CLAP team attended a workshop organised by CII on developing a policy roadmap for greening of industries on January 21, 2010 in Chandigarh

l Development Alternatives (DA) was the supporting partner in the Map India conference 2010 on ‘Defining Geospatial Vision for India’, held on January 19 – 21, 2010 at Epicentre, Gurgaon. The highlight of the conference was a symposium on ‘Geospatial for Development Sector’, where DA delivered a presentation on the ‘Application of GIS for Monitoring and Evaluation’

The total number of literates through the TARA Akshar literacy programme has crossed 57000

l The Lifeline Project, an agri-advisory service, has been extended till March 2010. This backend system is now being developed as an advisory service for other subjects such as education, career counseling, climate change, etc.

A three-day workshop on ‘Gender and Innovation’ at the India International Centre, New Delhi organised by Development Alternatives (DA) in collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) on January 12-14, 2010, was held to understand the role of women in innovation processes related to development. Partner organisations from developing nations with representatives from Afghanistan, Bolivia, India (DA), Pakistan, Palestine, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia emerged as leaders in this new initiative to pursue research activities. Leading practitioners on gender issues such as Dr Vinita Sharma, Advisor and Head of SEED (Science for Equity Empowerment and Development Division), Department of Science and Technology India, Dr Veena Ravichandran IDRC, Dr Arun Kumar, President DA, Ranjanan Kumari, Director Centre for Social Research, Dr Sara Ahmed IDRC, Umadevi Swaminathan, MD SEWA and Reshma Anand, CEO Earthy Goods offered valuable examples and experiences

l Over 120 people from different parts of India took a five-day journey – a Lok Awaas Yatra – to learn about the eco habitat in remote areas of Western India. The regional Yatra from January 17 to 21, 2010, covering Saurashtra, Kutch and Western Rajasthan, concluded in a Regional Seminar at the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT), Ahmedabad on January 21. State-level stakeholders came together to discuss regionally applicable good practices and to identify key enablers for large-scale replication
