How safe is your water?

Water borne diseases have made a come back! Shortage of water was forecasted for this summer. Is the government taking adequate steps to supply portable water?

If these questions are of any concern to you , READ ON!

Water borne diseases form the largest single category of communicable diseases, (WHO, 1992). Their prevention requires a drastic improvement in water quality. In India, about 21% of all communicable diseases (or 11.5% of all diseases) are water borne in nature. Diarrhoea, which is the most prevalent water borne disease, is responsible for 25-30% of deaths among children below the age of five years. Also, epidemics like infectious hepatitis, food poisoning and typhoid fever are quite common, even in urban India.

Check your water with AquaCheck

Water borne diseases are mostly transmitted from one person to another through contamination of water with faecal matter from an infected person. Coliform bacteria is found in human intestine and hence in the faecal matter. Therefore, presence of this bacteria in water indicates the contamination of water with faecal matter or sewage.

TARA Laboratories have launched a revolutionary product – AquaCheck - that can check the coliform bacteria in water. Aqua Check is a highly reliable product that is produced by TARA Laboratories. It is very simple to use and can be utilised to test water quality even at the household level. To test the quality of water, water is filled in the AquaCheck vial and left for 18-24 hours at room temperature (between 20-350 C). If the colour of water turns black, the water may be contaminated with pathogenic bacteria and should not be used for drinking without proper treatment.
