On 21st May 2005, the Climate Change Centre of ESB presented its work "Linking Climate Adaptation" at an International Conferecne on Climate Change(SB 22) at Bonn, Germany. The Side Event was organised by the Institute of Development Studies, London. DA in collaboration with a Canada based organization, Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), is conducting a 4 day Training programme on Household Biosand Filter during 8th – 11th June 2005, at TARAgram, Orchha, Madhya Pradesh. The course will also comprise of instructions for hands-on construction of all components of the filter.

Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) Programme

In the first phase of implementation, the MEAL process in all the six PACS states has been completed. In order to collate, analyse and synthesize the data available at the state level, a MEAL synthesis process was conducted to assess the progress and efficacy of the PACS programme and to formulate forward strategy of PACS.

A Project Management workshop for the new partners was conducted at TARA gram, Jhansi on 28th – 29th April 05. This is a capacity building exercise that is regularly conducted for the new PACS partners to orient them.

 

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

basin SA Regional Knowledge Platform, with support from Development Alternatives and Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) organized a one day consultation workshop on "Multiplication of Impact in Rural Habitat Initiatives – effective policy instruments". The workshop was organized on May 5th , 2005 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. It was attended by delegates representing the government, NGOs, corporates, media and the civil society. The workshop was organized in continuation to the study on rural habitat initiatives in different parts of the world, carried out by the Building and Social Housing Foundation, UK with DA.

The participants at the workshop unanimously articulated the need to have a separate policy addressing rural habitats. Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India chaired a panel discussion at the end of the workshop, which discussed issues ranging from a need for having a separate rural habitat policy to the need of a public private partnership in providing a sustainable solution to the rural housing problem.

 

TARAhaat

Microsoft Unlimited Potential : The total registration under the programme reached 270 girls for various IT courses. The break-up of the registration in different Territory Offices is: l Bathinda - 48 l Ludhiana - 148 l Sangrur & Amritsar - 8 l Jhansi - 62 l Pataudi - 4 Career Development Centre : A stall was put up at the Career Vision Fair in Ludhiana. The focus of the stall was the IELTS Workshop from 18-22nd May, 2005. The total registrations for the workshop were 320.

   

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)

TARA is promoting fly ash technology (FaL-G) throughout India, right from Himachal Pradesh to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu in collaboration with different institutions like District Trade and Industry Centre (DTIC) and Science and Entrepreneurship Development. Its BALRAM compressed earth block machine is being extensively used in Orissa.    q
