Paper presented by DA on "Climate change impacts integrated approaches for increased resilience of communities”, as part part of 12th World Congress on Environment Management, May 28-29 in New Delhi. The presentation focused on the four As approach (awareness, assessment, action and advocacy) for integrating, mitigation and adaptation in climate change projects for bringing about low carbon climate resilient development

l Development Alternatives was invited as a resource agency by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in Bhutan, to impart training on Integrated Environment Assessment to various stakeholders involved in developing the Second Bhutan Environment Outlook (BEO), May 16 -22

l DA engaged in a research study sponsored by India Water Partnership (IWP) - “Knowledge Dialogue on Integrated Domestic Water Management-Preparation of Compendium and Status paper”. The overall objective being to influence National Water Policy which governs the management of water resources in India with a view to incorporate aspects of Integrated Domestic Water Management (IDWM) in the semi arid and arid regions of India. A one day brainstorming workshop is scheduled to be held on June 5, at TARAgram, Orchha Tigela, Orchha Dist. Tikamgarh

l Under project “Strengthening District Planning in India” DA is conducting an experience sharing and cross learning workshop, June 8. The objective being to bring different stakeholders and practitioners together for better clarity and understanding on the current perspectives and ongoing initiatives in the area of district planning in India. The project is supported by The Asia Foundation with an aim to mainstream Environmental concerns in District planning process and establish Rural-Urban Integration for environmental management

l A team from Television for Environment visited Bundelkhand over two days to document the voices and field experiences on issues of climate change; also covered the villages and intervention under SDC supported Sustainable Civil Society Initiative

l The CLAP for Himachal team had a day long interaction with different line departments of district, in the presence of DC in Bilaspur, for setting up the District Steering Committee and for customizing the programme roll-out in Bilaspur. Was followed by the first community assessment exercise at Panchayat level in the district

l CLAP for Himachal conducted a training workshop for its ten implementation agencies for district Shimla, May 29, where the implementation partners were trained on conducting water and air testing and community environmental and carbon assessment along with the programme processes

l Based on the successful results of the NABARD supported Village Development programme of DA in one village in Badagaon Block, Jhansi District, NABARD adopted four more villages this month under their village development programme, for DA to implement

Development Alternatives was invited as a resource agency by National Institute of Rural Development at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh to conduct training program on agent of convergence in Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) with other Rural Development Programs, 10th - 15th May 2010

l
The placement cell of TARAhaat is now operational; looking at placement of TARAhaat students
