CLEAN-India: Partners in Change

CLEAN-India
CLEAN-India is a nationwide programme on environmental assessment, awareness and action, with a vision of helping develop cleaner environments for our towns and cities. The programme was initiated by Development Alternatives (DA) in 1996.

Programme Goal
The programme aims to mobilize community responsibility for environmental assessment and improvement in all major towns and cities of India through a network of schools and NGOs linked with government, business, academia etc.

The underlying realization is that "each one of us is responsible for the current state of environment in the country, and we cannot wait for someone else to solve it.

Programme Objectives
The three primary objectives of the CLEAN-India programme are to :

o systematically assess and document the environmental quality of all major towns and cities in India for atleast a period of three years.

o generate awareness among citizens, decision makers and other stakeholders in society on the causes of environmental issues and possible ameliorative action.

o mobilize communities to undertake environmental improvement actions at the local level.

CLEAN-India Partners
The CLEAN programme is conducted in association with NGOs, Schools, Local Administration, Business Associations, Pollution Control Authorities and Resident Welfare Associations.

o NGO Partners: mobilise a network of schools and involve them in the activities of the programme.
