Development Alternatives (DA) has been awarded a project by the Government of Himachal Pradesh, to evolve a community-led network of environmental awareness, advocacy, action and assessment to usher the State into a carbon-neutral future

l DA has been appointed the monitoring agency for NREGS afforestation programme in Jhansi. Under the SDC-SCSI project in Bundelkhand, demo models were initiated for farmers towards adoption of good agricultural practices

l A scoping study was carried out to design alternate implementation models (AIM) on NREGS in the state of Bihar, with support from the World Bank and the Government of Bihar

l The quarterly report for April - June 2009 and MEAL report for the period January to June 2009 has been successfully completed for Sustainable Community Development programme in Wadi

l In the SDC project, training programmes were conducted for the artisan’s cluster on group management as also for women on adult literacy

TARA Livelihood Academy (TLA)
l TARA Community College was formally launched on August 20, 2009 in Jhansi

l As a part of its Green Jobs initiative, TLA organised a stakeholders’ workshop in Ujjain and Jabalpur Clusters

l A two-day training programme was conducted on ‘Drinking Water Quality Management’ at Orchha on August 6 – 8, 2009

l TLA participated in a GET-HP workshop, organised by Hewlett Packard, held in Bangalore on August 3 – 5, 2009

l The State of Environment Report of India - 2009 was released by the Minister of State Environment and Forests, in a press conference on August 11, 2009. The report provides an insight into the various priority issues for India related to the current status of environment and natural resources, the pressures behind environmental changes and the impacts associated with these changes. The report also assesses the Government’s current and proposed policy initiatives or programmes as a response to check and monitor further degradation of the environment and further suggests policy options

l  A three-day training programme was conducted on Drinking Water Quality Monitoring and Management on August 6-8, 2009 in Jhansi.

l A capacity building workshop for orienting the members of local governing bodies (Orchha town and six Gram Panchayats) on ‘Drinking Water Quality Management and Solid Waste Management’, was organised at TARAgram Orchha on August 11, 2009 under the project ‘Strengthening District Planning in India’, supported by The Asia Foundation.

l TARA Machines has conducted a training programme on Micro Concrete Roofing Tile and Concrete Pavers’ Technology with the Aga Khan Foundation, Afghanistan. Four masons have already been trained under the aegis of this collaboration

l Paper Recycling Units have been installed and manpower trained at the Army Northern Command, Jammu and Kashmir

l A three-day training workshop has been conducted on narrow casting and marketing strategy for community reporters of Radio Bundelkhand. This training, conducted by MARAA, was held on August 11-13, 2009
